The Outdoor Connection Event

Documentary event photography for The Outdoor Connection in the Peak District

I’m sure you’d agree with me that the best event photography doesn’t only document what happened.

I want it to capture exactly how it felt to be there.

The Outdoor Connection is a three-day gathering that brings together community leaders, changemakers and organisations working to make nature more accessible for everyone.

Hosted by All the Elements in partnership with Outdoor Citizens and YHA, it’s a weekend built around learning, collaboration and genuine human connection.

My role wasn’t to photograph a schedule of workshops and talks (although I didn’t want to miss a thing!), it was to tell the story of the event as it unfolded.

Before the weekend began, we worked closely together to understand what mattered most to the team. Beyond documenting the programme itself, they wanted imagery that reflected the warmth of conversations around the beautiful venue of Ilam Hall, the energy of workshops and the joy of reconnecting with familiar faces. They also wanted to capture the moments of reflection between sessions.

So, throughout the three days, I worked with a documentary approach, blending into the background to capture authentic moments as they naturally happened. From animated discussions and shared laughter to thoughtful facilitation and moments of concentration, the aim was always the same: to create imagery that felt alive, welcoming and full of possibility.

Alongside candid storytelling photography, we also created a versatile library of images for future marketing, including facilitator portraits, workshop documentation, networking, environmental photography, group shots and the beautiful Peak District setting that framed the whole experience.

For organisations like All the Elements, these photographs have a purpose long after the event ends. They’re used to promote future programmes, celebrate the community they’ve built, attract new attendees, engage partners and collaborators, and communicate the values at the heart of the organisation.

Outstanding event photography helps people imagine themselves there.

Looking back through this gallery, I hope you can almost hear the conversations, feel the warmth of the connections, and understand why so many people return to The Outdoor Connection year after year.

That’s the real story these photographs were made to tell, and I’d love to help you capture this with your event too. Fancy a chat about it? Book in today.
