On an overcast mid-November Saturday, 6 photography enthusiast and I made a choice to reconnect with nature and pay attention to the small things on an Autumnal Photowalk.
First, we slowly meandered around a local park together as I shared my approach to really seeing what is around me, before making images that showcase the light, colours, textures and shapes that catch my eye.
Then we followed our own paths, exploring the area and capturing the sights that stood out to us - whether that’s wide shots of the park, silhouettes of the leaves above, or close up details of hidden mushrooms.
We then drank hot chocolate and shared our favourite images we’d made on the various phones and cameras brought along.
There were lots of great questions from the curious attendees too, and it was really fun to chat about the different ways in which we take in and express the world around us.
I’m really pleased that we raised £80 for Islamic Relief’s Gaza Fund which I’m going to top up to £100.
Here’s a few (very Autumnal) images I made with my little Fujifilm X100S:
You know I love learning, so here's what I learned from the Photowalk, even though we didn't meet for lessons and morals!
Taking the time to change your perspective can make you notice incredible new things - do you need to step much further back and get a bigger picture, do you need to zoom in real close? Play with your perspective!
Trust your gut - you have a gift, a way to see things that is unique to you, so don't be put off just because everyone else sees something different!
And finally... making time to immerse yourself in a slow, creative activity with like-minded folks is such a wholesome way to spend a Saturday morning!
Thank you to everyone who joined me for this first Photowalk!
I’m excited to see that many of you have already signed up to the Photowalk Waitlist - if you haven’t yet then what are you waiting for?
