A beautiful day surrounded by the most wonderful natural colours and smells.
Lois contacted me because she was in need of images as part of her exciting re-brand of her sustainable British floristry company - Little Garden Flowers. With a background in Photography, I knew I needed to impress! Lois had a great idea of what type of images she wanted - true to colour in a documentary style. An artistic twist on classic reportage photography, and images that would wow her clients.
As a sustainable florist, Lois told me about the damaging but unknown effects that irresponsible flower farming is having on the planet.
I was shocked to find out that just one stem produces more CO2 emissions than 15 plastic bags! Just one stem! You can only imagine how damaging all the bouquets in all the supermarkets are...This is why Little Garden Flowers is so important, not just in creating local produce that we can enjoy, but educating us about the other options out there. I knew nothing about the 'fast flower industry' (I've just come up with that but I think it works pretty well), and was really surprised by some of the issues that arise from it.
how to be more ECO-conscious
Lois advises to buy British flowers wherever possible. Yes they can be more expensive, but they smell AMAZING and last ages (Lois gave me a bunch so I can vouch for this) and last an amazingly long time. You can also get a surprisingly vast amount of variety grown here in the UK.
Embrace the seasons! As the weather changes, the flowers and plants that grow change too. This not only applies to beautiful-to-look-at plants, but ones we eat too. Source your food from more sustainable, local growers to help reduce your carbon footprint.
Reduce your plastic consumption. Zero waste shops are popping up all over the place. Here's a directory so you can find your nearest one!
